Central Salish Sea Clean Up Project

In June 2021, partnering with Ocean Legacy Foundation, our team worked to clear marine debris from Sunshine Coast shorelines. Our team was one of many cleanup crews doing this work across the Central Salish Sea area. Over the course of 2 weeks we cleaned the shores of Thormanby Island, East Trail Island, Halkett Bay Provincial Park, Sargeants Bay, and Elphinstone Beach. In total, we cleared 2 tonnes of marine debris over a cumulative 26.5km stretch of shoreline. Nearly 75% of the debris we collected was recycled or repurposed at Ocean Legacy’s marine debris recycling facilities in Richmond and Powell River!

Project Healthy Harbour

Established in September 2019, Project Healthy Harbour is a four-year partnership with the Town of Gibsons.

The project vision is “A healthy and vibrant harbour” and together, the organizations are actively working to:

  1. Advance the goals and objectives set out by Council for the Gibsons Harbour area; and

  2. Transform the Gibsons Harbour area into a world-class example of innovative, eco-asset management.

Laid out as a phased, multi-organizational, collaborative initiative, Project Healthy Harbour aims to understand, monitor, develop, conserve and restore the critical nearshore marine environment of the Town of Gibsons, and to do so in a way that balances the environmental, social and economic needs of the harbour.
